Teammanager Henk Hellegers and Mirjam Pol are in Tunsia at this moment to accompany the Honda Desert Adventure travels.
Mirjam Pol acts as a guide and will lead the way into the dunes around Douz. Customers will ride a Honda CRF 450X, and learn all the tips and tricks from Mirjam concerning riding in the dunes and soft sand. Besides to accompany the trips, the team is also in North Africa to do some tests, which will take place afterwards. The team brought a rallybike, which has been equipped with the latest adjustments. Because of the high temperatures in South America, the rallybike sometimes suffered from vapour lock caused by boiling fuel. A special device to measure fueltemperatures using infrared enables the team to study which improvements to the fuelsystem will give the best results. Furthermore three new types of fronttires will be tested as well.
Recently A.S.O. announced that the Dakar 2011 will be held in South America. Henk Hellegers is pleased with this choice: ,,I'm hapy with South America. It was a good race this year, and we scored some good results. Now we can prepare even more into details. The list with eliteriders who are obliged to ride with a 450 will be further completed. Riders who scored results internationaly in for example enduro but who have no Dakarexperience will be added to the list, to make sure chances are equal for all topriders. At the manufacturersmeeting in Paris which I attended we talked about lowering the costs, and the possibility of planning one or more marathonstages in the rally. It should still be possible for an amateur to get a good result.''
''We will schedule a number of races for this year, but the choise hasn't been made yet. Coming autumn we will do a final test in Tunisia before all the material will be shipped to South America by the end of november.''
