After a good flight the team and passing through customs the team went directly to the harbour in Lima, 100 km north of Buenos Aires. During the trip to Lima it starts pouring with rain. The bikes and support vehicles are picked up quickly and in good shape. The team has arrived in the camp and is making final preparations.
Unfortunaltely Vadim could not join us. He is injured and had to stay
at home. His bike did go on board and is left lonely at the docks. The
GPS and iritrack are taken off and returned to ERTF, the French rental
company. Vadim will be missed by the team, especially his sense of
humor and friendlyness. Hopefully he'll join us again in 2011!
The bikes go on transport will as little fuel as possible, for security
reasons. After 20 km we fill up the bikes and the support vehicles. ASO
has provided a roadbook that leads us back from the harbour to the
camp. Like last year it is located near the University and the huge
River Plate soccer stadion. Here we will rearrange all the stuff in the
truck, and move the tyres to the roof. Even though we have compact
servicetruck, it still is a lot of work.
Tomorrow the bikes go from the
camp to the scrutineering, and stay in parc ferme. After scrutineering
we can use all the assistence vehicles. The presscar is checked first,
so the press team can move around freely.
Everybody is relaxed and doing the little things that need to be done
right before the competition starts. Probably adrenaline will start
flowing tomorrow, as the start approaches. We remember the spirit of
Argentine from last year, and it is great to see this country again.
