Quote from Mirjam Pol on the offical Dakarwebsite: Here’s a young lady of 22 who dreamt of dust and sweat. Mirjam Pol chose a peculiar path. After a first Dakar in 2006, finished at the 80th position on the shores of the Lac Rose and second best woman, she came back in 2007 with again a runners-up title in the woman’s class. It was on the South American territory that Mirjam eventually conquered the best woman’s title on her third attempt. The youngest of the Honda Europe team who is also the most experienced of the squad can now aim a little bit higher: “If things could go as well as last year, it would be great. But this year, I will be looking a little higher. First of all I battle it out with the girls and then with the other Dutch competitors. Compared to them, I’m not the fastest but my style is perfectly adapted to the Dakar. I like navigation and long term efforts suit me well, that’s how I gain positions. I’m actually a real diesel!”
