The story started 25 year ago, watching for the first time The Dakar on "auto
moto" a french motorsport TV show. Even if in Canada nobody knew about
this amazing race, it injected me it's virus.
In 98, after only 10 hours total of motorcycle experience, I sent my KLR650 (which
was totally not adapted for rallying) in Granada in order to participate in the
Atlas Rallye in Morroco. I had several crashes a day, loosing half the bike in the
desert, getting towed by a camel to start the kickless bike and winning the
trophy for perseverance and I also became the first Canadian ever to
participate in an African Rally Race.
A part of my dream was accomplished. But
Dakar was my dream! In 2000, after 1 year of convincing Canadians about
what is Dakar and a big help of Honda Canada who believe in me, I was
on the starting line, becoming the first
Canadian to participate in the Dakar on a bike. But with 1 summer
experience in off roading, I pushed to hard for my small riding
capabilities and my Dakar dream stopped hard on the ground at more then
120km/h.
But like a real Dakarist, after 1 week of saying to myself I will never
do it again i quikly change my mind and I was already on the
preparation for 2001. I had more experience riding but not
mechanically. So my engine stopped before the rest day!
After these experience, I decided that desert, adventure and motorcycle would be
part of my life. Now I am on a bike 12 months a year; I am motorcycle guide in
Morocco and other places in the world and I work with Honda Canada.
I am approaching this Dakar with a lot more experience and all aspect and my
only goal, like everybody else is to finish.
This year to prepare I was in Morocco for 6 week guiding groups in the desert.
I also will be in the Honda Europe Team to make sure I have all the chance to reach
Buenos Aires
Without my friend and family and especially Honda, I would not be able to have
the kind of life I have now! THANKS!
